The Bible is divided, quite literally, into two covenants. With this understanding we should be intent to understand the idea of covenant and its implications for us as believers. David examines the theology of covenant in a way that confirms the consistency of the Scriptures. With a greater revelation of covenant comes a worldview that empowers and informs our relationship with Jesus Christ.

It is clear from the evidence provided by Scripture that ‘covenant’ plays a very significant role in God’s dealings with His people. A covenant is established, for example, with Noah (Gen. 6:18), with Abraham (Gen. 15:18), with the Israelites (Exod. 24:8) and with David (Ps. 89:3). In the New Testament we also find Jesus applying covenant terminology to the Last Supper: ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood’ (Luke 22:20). But what is a ‘covenant’?
